Back in Time

DRIVING QUESTION:

How can we learn to be a better friend using stories from our past?

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Students will take on the character of an early explorer. They will need to trace out their route and show where they settled. They will then use this information to create three artifacts and a monologue. In the monologue, students will say what they artifacts represent in their lives. They will say why people liked them and why people disagreed with them. They will identify the people and environment that were affected by them. They will include some things they could have done to be a better friend. As a final event the students will invite their buddy class (grade 2/3 class) to enter their back-in-time classroom. Each student will dress up like their character and present their monologue.

CONNECTIONS AND PERSPECTIVES:

Students will explore how their actions impact others and become aware of how to treat others respectfully.
