DRIVING QUESTION:

What are the ways in which heroes and villains are represented in stories around the world? How are we the heroes and villains in our own stories?

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This project has three components.  The first task is brainstorming and forming questions about literature from other countries and then researching and writing responses (country of choice, groups of three or four). The second task is reading stories about heroes and villains from these countries and then orally comparing and critiquing the cultural similarities and differences. The third task is writing their own stories about themselves where they have been heroes and/or villains, using one of the cultural forms we critiqued. These will be orally presented and must include a visual that represents the story.

CONNECTIONS AND PERSPECTIVES:

This project is authentic because is requires students to critique and compare cultures; relate cultural stories and values to personal stories and values; identify the important role that stories play in our lives; and write, create and share with others.
