Should fishermen care about the moon phases?
Students will learn about moon phases and tides and explore its effects to living things. They will then take a field trip to a local fish market and learn about the different types of fresh fish and when they are available. Upon returning to the classroom they will research if there is any link to moon phases, tides and fish availability through individual research and guest speakers: fishermen, astronomers, First Nation fishermen, chefs and grocery store managers/buyers. They will write a weekly blog about their findings. The final project will be a brochure explaining their findings to the public, highlighting the best time to buy certain fish.
This project encourages students to demonstrate respect for God’s creation. It serves the community with practical and authentic information.
