How are rights best met in community?

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This project begins by having students experience chaos in the classroom; there will be garbage all over, no rules and the playground will be off limits. After this they will have engage in the 4 square protocol to see and feel the need and read the “Rights of a Child”. They will then take a field trip to Town Hall to discover services that meet needs in their community and spend time interviewing a community worker on a specific service they offer. Back at school, the students will look at their school community and decide what rights are met well and where changes can be made to be more responsible. Together they will come up with a proposal for change and create a persuasive PowerPoint in groups to present to their school leadership.

CONNECTIONS AND PERSPECTIVES:

Students will engage in community building as this project allows students to see a way they can pursue positive change for their school community.
