PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Students will receive two back-to-back video messages requiring them to choose a side.  One video will be from a Red River Militants member complaining that Louis Riel needs encouragement in what will become the Red River Rebellion. The second will be from John A. MacDonald asking you to prevent/dissuade Riel from continuing in his Rebellion. Students must pick a side and write a persuasive letter (and eventually produce a persuasive product) to convince Louis Riel one way or another.  The teacher will dress up as Louis Riel and they will have to convince her in their final presentation.

CONNECTIONS AND PERSPECTIVES:

This project allows students to learn about the elements of persuasion and rhetoric. The underlying aim is to help students to become proficient and effective communicators and listeners.
